Age 88 of Hartland, MI passed away on May 16, 2018. He was born on October 11, 1929 in Highland Park, MI a son of Juho and Anna (Raski) Kristola. He was honorably discharged in 1949 after serving as a corporal in the US Army. On December 11, 1954, he married Lila E. Wiitala in Detroit, moving to White Lake Twp, and then Hartland in 1961. John enjoyed woodworking, volunteer work, and especially gardening, known as a want-to-be farmer. Prior to his retirement, John had been employed by General Motors for 30 years.
Surviving are his children: Jay (Gretchen) Kristola, Lauri (David) Trapp, Tina (Lawrence) Jenks, and Jeff (Gail) Kristola; grandchildren: Alek, Miaken, Stephanie, Spencer, Alexandria, Courtney, Darcie, and Kellie; nine great grandchildren; sister Arlene Law; and brother Donald Kristola.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hartland with the Rev. Dr. Frank J. Pies, officiating with a luncheon following the service. Visitation begins at 9:30 A.M. at the church. Interment to follow the luncheon at Gardner Cemetery, Tyrone Twp.
